Why It Feels Like Everyone Else Is Making Money in Property

As a buyer’s advocate, I’ve helped clients purchase homes to live in, properties to invest in, and commercial spaces for business owners to operate from. With experience in owning and managing various businesses, from small ventures to larger operations with multiple funding partners, I've seen firsthand the successes and challenges in property investment.
If you feel like you’re missing out on great property investments, or that others know something you don’t, you’re not alone. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure if you’re sabotaging your potential success. Let's explore this with the goal of clarifying what's important to you and identifying your next steps.
Over the years, I’ve identified key markers of great property investors. Here are four that can help you cut through the noise and build confidence in your path:

1. Don’t Be at the Mercy of Social Media

Social media is a beast, and it can feed you what it wants. Just a few clicks promising quick results from property investments can trap you in a cycle of misinformation. Your thoughts become your beliefs, which then drive your actions. Don’t let yourself be misled by spruikers.
As a buyer’s advocate, I understand the proliferation of advice out there, some good and some not. Even I can get caught in the rabbit hole of social media, doom scrolling with what started as good educational intention. Great property investors, don’t get caught up in who's showcasing what on social media. They feed their minds with quality content, read reputable sources, and model their mentors. Find someone who is where you want to be, interrogate their legitimacy and learn from them if they're credible.

2. Invest in Yourself

Great property investors prioritise self-improvement. They value skills and education over material possessions like luxury cars or unaffordable houses. Education goes beyond the latest on-trend courses or social media tips. Identify the self-development tactics and education courses that will add value to your goals and invest in them. Exercise self-awareness. If what you're consuming is adding confusion rather than clarity, then you may be off track. Prioritise your physical and mental health so you have the energy and clarity to make good decisions. A sound body and mind are crucial for success.Read well. Work with someone who is practising what you want to do, be of service, and add value.

3. Know Why You Want What You Want

Successful investors are grounded because they know their purpose. They don’t get distracted by what others are doing. Instead, they have a clear understanding of why they are investing and what they plan to achieve. This clarity helps them stay focused and avoid being swayed by external influences.

4. Surround Yourself with Greatness

Successful people surround themselves with great people. They have advisors and mentors and seek to mentor others in return. They know the value of connection, learning, and growth. By curating their circle carefully, they ensure they are influenced by positive, knowledgeable, and supportive individuals. They are selective with their time and maintain clear boundaries.
By focusing on these key markers, you can start to feel more confident in your property investment journey and begin to see opportunities that align with your goals.

And forget comparing yourself to others. That’s the fastest road to unhappiness.
